The Boy Pigs

I have not said much about our two new pigs, even though they have been with us for an entire week now! We bought them last Tuesday, November 14th. They would have been born around October 1st. It took Nellie and Sally a couple of days to adjust to the boys being around, but they have stopped biting and fighting with them. I guess they had to make sure they were the bosses!

Rufus is mostly a Hampshire boar. He has the white band at the shoulders of a Hamp, but his red color maybe comes from a Duroc, according to my ag. teacher friend.

Rufus is the one we are going to keep for breeding.

Our other little boy is a Chester White. We are calling him Porky, because he will be providing us some pork in the future.

Here is a good one of the two together, taken the day we got them:

They really are smaller than Sally and Nellie, since they are a month younger, but the pictures don't really let you see much of a difference. Here's one of Porky with Nellie and Sally:

They all four eat like little pigs!

I am going to end this post with a picture from last month that I missed somehow of Simon with Nellie and Sally. I should have put it with the post of more cute pictures of pigs from a couple of weeks ago. All the children are still enjoying the pigs of Pure Water Hollow!
