Original message from Amanda:
I just read your entry on the hog butchering. I believe your family must really love each other to be able to do what you are doing.
We haven't had to butcher any animal for our food. I would love to be able to put chickens up this year all by ourselves. I suppose it is just one step at a time as you seem to be learning.
The amazing thing to me is how GOD seems to be moving HIS people, the way you and I (as many others on Homesteadblogger) towards self reliance. (never without HIM though.)
My father-in-law saw this coming (economic problems) many moons ago. He was blind (physically) and THE LORD gave Him a vision to prepare, though he knew not what he was preparing for.
He passed on to Heaven 3 years ago. I wish I had him to talk to now and learn all of the things he knew growing up in the mountains of W.VA. and caring for his family.
Sorry to ramble. Your posts are so encouraging and lets me know that THE LORD is using HIS people to help each other for HIS glory in these uncertain times!
Blessings,

Amanda,
Thanks so much for the encouragement! I am always amazed at how the Lord works and I am thankful for those who have a vision for His kingdom. As America goes further away from God, I think He will use His people in greater ways to show others His love and truth.
I just looked over at your blog. Sorry to say that I haven't been following along much in the past (I haven't been following any blogs for a while now) but what I saw with a quick survey tells me I need to come back to yours and spend much time! It looked great!
You will be able to butcher chickens. We've found getting something like that on your mind is the first step. The more you think about it, the easier it is to picture yourself doing it, and the more you study about how to do it. God will make a way for it to happen if it is His will for you!
My wife reminded me that I posted about butchering chickens some time ago with pictures. They were small chickens compared to the ones we have now, but the process is the same. We've learned more since those posts, but they still might help if you can find them. I guess the easiest way to find them would be with the Learning About Chickens category link. You might have to go back through several posts before you find it.
God bless!
Eric
