Swimming Upriver by Judy Harwood

We here at Pure Water Hollow have been excited about a new book that had been in the works for some time.

It takes place at and around Pure Water Hollow before it was called "Pure Water Hollow"!

If you live in an old house, have you ever wondered what went on inside those walls in the far-off past? Our house was once part of a coal camp and then was sold at auction and moved across the river sometime during the 1930s. A new family bought it and lived here from 1943 until 1965 or 1966. It is interesting that the new family moved here in April of 1943 and my family moved here 50 years later in April of 1993.

One of the children who grew up in this house, on this land, during the 1940s and 50s wrote a book about her experiences here called Simming Upriver: Coming of Age in Appalachia. I enjoyed the book very much, especially the glimpses of life here 50 years ago. It is now available for purchase if anyone else might be interested. You can get it on Amazon.com or BarnesAndNobel.com.

God bless everyone.
