An Update

A new week has started and tomorrow marks the beginning of a new month! January has certainly flown by quickly!

We only got a bit of winter weather from that last storm I mentioned, with a whole lot of rain but only an inch of snow Tuesday/Wednesday. We got another inch of snow Friday morning, but after that it became spring-like! Friday turned out to be nice and then on Saturday we saw a sunny 60 degrees and Sunday was almost 60, too!

I don't have much homestead news, but we bought a buff goose for $10 Friday night to go with our two white ganders. Something killed our last goose earlier this winter, so we needed to replace her. She is almost a year old and we are hoping she will hatch off some goslings for us this spring!

Our pork is ready from Appalachian Meats also, so we will be picking that up this week. It will be interesting to see how they did with those two hogs we took to them two weeks ago.

With January closing out today, I should note that it has not been the snowiest January on record. I've not added up or totals yet, but I'm pretty sure it was not as much as the 17 inches we got last January. Our December this year was actually quite a bit worse than January! Even with Christmas break, our school system canceled 10 days for snow compared to only 7 days we've missed through January! I wonder what February will hold?
