Is it possible in the 21st century to have an old fashioned, Christ honoring, homestead? We are creating such a homestead nestled in the hills of Eastern Kentucky while we learn more about the "old ways" of living! I will share my thoughts and the adventures of my family as we strive for a simpler, back to basics type of life for the glory of God!

Free Venison
Both life and death are part of a homestead cycle, it seems. About 50 yards away from the barn that just saw the birth of a new calf, the highway and a car joined forces to cause the death of a young deer passing by. Matthew and Simon saw the truck that hit the deer, and since the deer was not messed up at all they hoisted it up into Matt's truck. I was amazed that he had it skinned and had the hams and tenderloin ready to be washed off within 10 minutes of getting home. It should be a couple of very nice venison meals for this homestead family! Ya gotta love a country boy!
Added later: We had never had such a young deer on our table before. The meat from this animal was excellent! I guess being younger makes a difference in the tenderness and flavor. Even if someone thought they did not like venison, they would have found it difficult to not like this. Delicious!
