Unknown Plant…

We are wondering if any fellow bloggers knows what this plant is?

Lisa enjoys identifying the plants here in eastern Kentucky but this was a new one she found Sunday and has not been able to find it in any of our books.

Here is a closer picture:

It is pretty, but it was sort of hiding under some fallen leaves and debris. It is in pretty much total shade on the east side of the mountain.

If anyone has any ideas, we would apprectiate hearing them.

Thanks.

Pick it and if it smells something like carrots, it might be hemlock.. poisonous. Hard to tell, but I have seen this grow in the undergrowth of forests and it has always been hemlock.

I was going to comment, but after reading the first comment, I think you'd better check it out very carefully.

This looks like Princess Pine, which is on the endangered list of plants in my state (Connecticut). I used to pick loads of it to make Christmas wreaths. Hmmm… wonder if it's usually found in your neck of the woods, or if it just got introduced? I don't believe it's poisonous…. -Chris
