It cost us some money to fix it, but I think it will be a good investment for the future, as we plan on making use of that property more and more in the years to come. On January 21st we had a bull dozer come smooth out the mud, make a better drainage ditch, and spread out some new gravel.
Some "before" pictures.
The bull dozer.
The gravel.
The new gravel lane.
Simon and Christina watched from a spot on the hill.
I love the slogan of the company we hired. They have this on all of their trucks.
I may get some more gravel for this lane in the future as it is a bit thinner than I wanted and did not go quite as far as I had hoped. As it is, we have already used 60 ton of gravel for this project! And the price has gone up since the last time I got gravel for Pure Water Hollow. When we had 75 ton delivered to our home in 2008 it was $17/ ton. Now it costs $23/ton. The bull dozer has gone up from $60/hour to $65/hour which wasn't too bad of an increase. Both times we used four hours of dozer time.
So, to count up the cost, we got $1380 worth of gravel, $260 worth of dozer, and I also hired a roller to come out to pack the gravel down for another $160. Total bill: an even $1800. This was much more than I wanted to spend, but we are thankful to God for blessing us with the resources to be able to do such a project! To Him be the glory!
And, as our gravel company reminds us, Jesus Saves!
