The doors to a home are important. They should represent a warm invitation for a guest but also a strong deterrent for a crook. A door should be both secure and attractive.
Matthew has been doing a little work at the Lawrence County house, that I would like to mention for the record. He has been very busy with his college classes, but did find time to move some doors around two weekends ago.
There was a solid outside type door going into the kitchen, but we plan on taking the entire kitchen wall out, so the door would not be needed there. This door is also the nicest one we have! The main entry door at the car-port was an older type door. The door on the other side going out to the yard was actually just a storm door, and could have easily been broken into.
This is the old kitchen door, now as the main entry door at the carport.
Here is the old main door, now on the other side leading out to the side yard.
This is the wall that will be coming out where the kitchen door was.
Moving these doors around was a very good improvement! It will really be nice when we get that wall tore out, raise up the floor in the long room, and make every thing flow together as one large kitchen/dining room.
Yesterday, Matt went over there to do some school work in the quiet environment that an empty house affords. He built a fire in the fire place that will eventullay be part of the kitchen/ dining room when the re-modeling is complete. He said it warmed up the "long room" much quicker than the propane heater and baseboard heater did in the kitchen.
I think this is the first fire built since we've owned the house.
Looks cozy and inviting, doesn't it?

Especially on this cold and snowy day!
I'm sure we will have more remodeling updates from the Lawrence County house as 2013 progresses.
