A Winter Weekend

We have continued to have winter weather here at Pure Water Hollow! As you know, Wednesday night started out with freezing rain which turned into snow all of Thursday morning and was topped off with another quarter inch of ice and several dashes of sleet. Breaking through the outer coating of ice and forcing the yardstick down, I measured 5 full inches of snow and ice on the ground Thursday afternoon, the 16th!

It was interesting to see the ice cover everything. I don't think the pictures really did the ice to justice, though. Our old '79 brown truck was frozen:

So was my '94 Taurus:

Can you see the ice on this peach limb?

There is a regular ice cycle hanging from this apple leaf that you can't see unless you look closely:

Simon and Matthew had a bit of a snowball fight. Here is Simon getting ready to bombard Matthew:

Erica was finished with her finals, but it was impossible to get her home until Friday. I was a bit concerned Friday morning when our area was again covered with freezing drizzle. Even the cleared roads were terrible again early. Thankfully, the roads were passable later in the afternoon, and I was able to get Erica home. Here she is at our church Christmas service/party. She looks happy to be back home!

After church she had some fun with Simon and Timothy in the snow:

Since I had the camera out this afternoon, I decided to take a few other pictures. These hens preferred staying in the tree instead of getting down on the icy snow. I thought the buff hen was pretty in this shot:

Here is a buff pullet that was staying under the protection of the truck instead of walking around in the snow:

But the rooster, Buck, still had to come out occasionally to strut his stuff:

Dusty, the cat, sort of blends into his surroundings during weather like this:

I should mention that we also saw snow flurries both on Saturday and today, Sunday, and there is a good possibility of another small snow system coming Monday evening! I am thankful that we are all together for the Christmas season, and that God is in control of everything, including the weather!
